Create This Italian Inspired Knit Via Diagonale Bag
This knit Via Diagonale bag is inspired by the designer’s love for Italy. It has been made using a textured slip stitch pattern in contrasting colors. The result is a very eye-catching bag with some Italian style and flair.
The bag is roomy enough for all your essentials (including your latest knitting project). In fact, you will find that the structure is rather simple. The bag’s shape comes from the gusset and lining support.
This stylish purse is made using to contrasting colors in a cotton yarn. However, the pattern is probably more suited for slightly more experienced knitters, rather than newbies to knitting.
The finished knit via diagonale bag measures:
- Width: 10.5 inches (27 centimeters)
- Height: 8 inches (20 centimeters)
- Gusset Depth: 3 inches (8 centimeters)
The yarn may be a bit difficult to source, but it can easily be substituted. Just make sure that you use a mercerized cotton. This type of cotton is often also referred to as pearl cotton. The treatment given to this kind of yarn will help ensure the strength of your completed bag.
The pattern for this stylish handbag will look equally beautiful when using a solid and variegated yearn combination as well.
So, why not have a go at making this stylish, Italian-inspired knitted handbag?

I guess i missed it but the directions do not say how many stitches to cast on. Also do you have a tutorial on this stitch?
Hi. The pattern is done multiples of 24, so you will need to cast on 192 stitches. The diagonal pattern was taken from a French pattern book. Here is the instructions (in French) and a diagram . Unfortunately, I do not have anything in English. I hope this helps.
