This adorable rib knitted baby hat will make the perfect present to a newborn little boy or girl.
The designer responsible for this delightful knitted baby hat is Jennifer Sauselein over at Sorella & Company.
She has written a great pattern with instructions for how to knit this lovely little hat for a newborn baby.
There is no decreasing nor any increasing of stitches, just knitting and purling.
In fact, this makes this little hat a great pattern for beginners to knitting.

I would like to knit this for an adult. How many stitches do I have to cast on? I did it for my grandson and his Mom wants one for herself.
Dear Cheryl,
Thanks for getting in touch.
To knit the knitted hat for an adult, it will depend on how tight/loose you tend to knit, and the yarn you are using.
I suggest measuring a 10 cm square on the hat you have already knitted and count the number of stitches used. Next, measure the width of the knitted hat.A baby hat is about 36 cm in circumference, so if yours is the same, you need to divide it by 60 (the number of stitches in the pattern) which is roughly 1.67 stitches per cm. A woman’s head has an average circumference of 57 cm – this gives us this calculation: 57 cm x 1.67 stitches = 95.19 stitches. The pattern is over 6 stitches so you must be able to divide the number by 6 which is not possible so you round it off to 96 stitches which should give a repeat of the pattern of 16. However, this all depends, as I said above, how tight or loosely you knit and the type of yarn, hence the swatch measurement.
I hope this helps!
All the best,
Ann
